Until recently, purchasing managers still described the order backlog as high. Following the slight decline in December, we expect a renewed rise in new orders m-o-m at the beginning of the year after the VAT hike. Despite the slowdown in the global growth dynamic, the dynamic remains robust overall.

Japan Jan leading index 35.0 vs 37.5 in Dec; coincident index 55.6 vs 63.6 (AFX News)
The index of leading economic indicators fell to 35.0 in January from a revised 37.5 in December, below market expectations, preliminary data from the Cabinet Office showed. Economists on average forecast the leading index would come in at 55.6 for January. A reading above 50 points to economic expansion over the subsequent six months, while figures below 50 suggest a contraction.
