FOMC keeps refi rate and Treasury program unchanged on gradual recovery ahead

FXstreet.com − Federal Reserve has decided to leave its interest rate unchanged at 0.0% to 0.25% band and to keep its Treasury purchase program and MBS at the same size as it decided in the previos FOMC meeting. Fed has announced it will keep rates exceptionally low in the near term despite consumer spending has shown signs of stabilization as economic contraction is slowing in the latest month. Fed expects a gradual economic recovery in the short term. Dollar reacts up.

Friday Notes - Private sector deleveraging to slow down economic recovery by UniCredit Group

Layoffs are at a high level, as are the continuing claims although the worst is definitely behind us. But both measures of labor market weakness are still higher than would be associated with an imminent end to the recession. Among the (further) good news in this weekly report is the insured unemployment rate, which fell to 5%.
