Mid−Day Forex Technical Report − Dollar Mixed Ahead of FOMC, Euro Weighed Down by ActionForex.com

Fed is announcing their rate decision tonight at 8.15 pm CET. There is not much doubt that Fed will cut rates, but it is quite uncertain if Fed will cut by 25 or 50bp. The market is calculating a 72% probability for a 25bp cut and 28% probability for a 50bp cut. The latest macroeconomic figures have not been all that worrying and Fed is still worried about inflation on the upside.

European and US summary - FOMC Trims 25−bp, USD, JPY Buoyed by Forexnews.com

The FOMC, as largely anticipated, cut its benchmark lending rate by 25−basis points to 4.25% while also lowering the discount rate by 25−basis points to 4.75%. Given the reaction by the US equity bourses, markets were hoping for either a more aggressive ease or language from the Fed. The yen strengthened across the board following the decision, rallying on its inverse correlation with equities.
