Weekly Commentary - Aust Jan Westpac-MI Consumer Sentiment by Westpac Institutional Bank

The consumer mood continues to fluctuate. The Westpac-MI Consumer Sentiment Index rebounded 11.8% in December to 106.2, to be 1% above October. Interest rate rises have added to debt servicing costs, however once again (wrongly in our view) there is a sense that rates have already peaked.

Housing starts decreased 7.8% in December by FXstreet.com

Starts of new houses in Canada have fallen by 7.8% in December, to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 211,500 from 229,300 units in November, according to the monthly report by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The experts advanced an annual rate of 230,000 starts.
