FXstreet.com (San Francisco) - U.S. stocks finished higher for the first trading week in October, but ended mixed Friday despite an unexpected drop in the U.S. unemployment rate a month before the presidential election; a gloomy outlook for global growth continues to weigh heavily on sentiment and remains a significant drag on the market. Dow industrials gained 34.79 points, or 0.3%, to 13,610.15 today, and rallied 1.3% for the week to near 5-year highs. The S&P 500 index today ticked down less than a point to 1,460.93, and ended higher on the week by 1.4%. The Nasdaq fell 13.27 points, or 0.4%, to 3,136.19, gaining 0.6% for the week.
