The European Union has been awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize, against a backdrop of a deep crisis that has been hammering the bloc for several quarters so far. The Nobel Prize Committee has justified the decision in that the euro zone has been working long years to promote peace and democracy in Europe.
President of the prize committee, Thorbjoern Jagland, has emphasized that the prize constitutes a clear sign to the EU to keep improving what is done already in the field of human rights, adding “the main message is that we need to keep in mind what we have achieved on this continent, and not let the continent go into disintegration again."
The award will be presented in Oslo on December 10, consisting of €1 million.
