FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - US stocks traded little changed and mixed on Tuesday as investors remain sidelined of making big moves before the Fed policy meeting that will conclude on Wednesday, with some expecting further stimulus measures.

The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 9 points, or 0.07%, to 13,063. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 0.10 points, or 0.01%, to 1,385. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 9 points, or 0.31%, to 2,954.

Even a string of better-than-expected US economic reports failed to drive stocks higher as investor remain cautious ahead of this week's key events.

Optimism was tempered on Tuesday by news the German Finance Ministry saying it doesn't see need of giving the ESM a banking license. Meanwhile, an unnamed German Bundesbank official was cited saying that monetary policy should focus on price stability, while fiscal troubles among member states should be addressed by fiscal tools.
