LONDON -(Dow Jones)- The U.K. treasury said Thursday it doesn't believe offering sovereign sukuk bonds is currently the right step.
"The Government has concluded that issuing sovereign sukuk wouldn't offer value for money at the present time but will keep the situation under review," the treasury said in a consultation document on Islamic Finance.
The government has been consulting since April 2007 whether to issue sovereign sukuk bonds.
