HIGHLIGHTS-Trichet comments after ECB leaves rates on hold

FRANKFURT, Oct 2 (Reuters) - The following are comments European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet made at a news conference on Thursday after the bank's Governing Council decided to keep its key interest rate at 4.25 percent.
On economic activity: "Economic activity in the euro area is weakening."
"The economic outlook is subject to increased downside risks."
