French Fin Min: Mtg With Financial Cos Was To Assess Their Needs

PARIS -(Dow Jones)- French President Nicolas Sarkozy met with heads of the country's largest financial companies Tuesday in order to assess their needs in terms of liquidity, French Finance minister Christine Lagarde said Tuesday.

The meeting was a "round table" discussion, including French Central Bank Governor and ECB board member Christian Noyer, Lagarde and executives from banking and insurance companies.

The purpose was to "hear how banks and insurance companies evaluate the current situation and what constraints they operate under and how to ease up any constraints in terms of liquidity," she said.
