US wholesales inventories shrink, beating forecasts

US wholesale inventories unexpectedly decreased by -0.8% in December of last year, down from a 1.5% increase during the previous month. The market had expected wholesales stocks to grow by 0.5%.

UK trade deficit unexpectedly jumps to highest level since Jan 09

The UK goods trade deficit widened to £7.3 billion in December of last year from £6.8 billion in the previous month. The market had expected a slight decrease in the trade gap to reach £6.6 billion. December's trade deficit is the highest since January 2009.

Japanese industrial output rose a seasonally adjusted 2.2% in December from the previous month, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Friday, as stronger Asian demand helped production gain for the tenth-straight month, a positive sign for the country's export-driven economic recovery.
