TOKYO, Sept 18 (Reuters) - The Bank of Japan said on Thursday it would encourage the uncollateralised overnight call rate to remain around 0.5 percent.

The central bank held an unscheduled policy board meeting on Thursday, just a day after its regular rate review, as part of co-ordinated global action involving six major central banks.

The BOJ said it had concluded a U.S. dollar swap agreement with the Federal Reserve for up to $60 billion and had decided to start supplying U.S. dollars to market participants.

"The bank will continue to strive to maintain market stability through money market operations," the BOJ added in a statement.
