Registered Construction Permits In March 2008

According to the Order of Engineers' statistics, Lebanon’s registered construction permits amounted to 782,983 sqm in March 2008, a remarkable 44.21% Y-o-Y increase from the 542,949 sqm level registered in March 2007.


Payment Cards As At March 2008

Statistics released by Banque Du Liban (BDL) reveal a 9.88% annual expansion in the number of payment cards in Lebanon (Debit and Credit cards) reaching 1,459,998 cards in the first quarter of 2008.


BLC Bank’s Financial Performance In First Quarter Of 2008

BLC Bank released its un-audited financial statements last week unveiling a 50.89% annual increase in net after tax profits in the first quarter of 2008, to $4.56 million, from $3.02 million in the same period in 2007.


Egypt’s Mobinil Posts Q1 Financial Performance

According to Reuters, Egypt’s cell phone operator Mobinil, which enjoys the biggest subscriber base in Egypt, posted a 14% increase in net profits to Egyptian Pound 451 million ($84 million) of the first quarter in 2008.


Trade Gap in March 2008

The U.S. Department of Commerce reported a contraction in its March 2008 balance of trade deficit to $58.2 billion (lowest real adjusted level since November 2003) down from $61.7 billion in the preceding month.
