US: FOMC minutes for the September 22/23 policy meeting

The FOMC minutes state that overall economic activity is beginning to pick up, an economic recovery is under way, job losses are slowing noticeably from earlier in the year, the members see indications of improvement in consumer spending outlook, gradual recovery in housing sectors under way, most members have revised economic projections, credit from banks remains difficult to obtain, economic slack will be substantial for the next few years, inflation subdued, a gradual reduction of agency debt purchases will promote smooth transition, members have different views over the rate at which security purchases should be slowed, most members support extending MBS agency debt purchases through Q1 2010, developing several tools to support smooth withdrawal of policy accommodation. USD extends losses after the release of upbeat FOMC minutes.
