Bucket Shop

A bucket shop is an fraudulent brokerage firm that accepts buy and sell orders from customers but does not execute them. The transaction goes "in the bucket" and is never executed. Instead the bucket shop will wait until the market moves against a customer and then execute the order, keeping the difference as profit. Without an actual underlying transaction, the customer does not participate in the market.

Bucket shops are sometimes called the boiler room.
